The Cleveland Bay Horse Society is a registered charity (Reg.
Charity No. 293872) which was set up to protect and promote the Cleveland Bay horse which remains on the Rare Breed Survival Trust’s critical list.
Based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, the society aims to raise funds as well as awareness of the plight of this ancient British breed which originated in the Cleveland Hills.
With less than 250 pure bred mares of breeding age throughout the world, it is vitally important to engage the support of British breeders, riders and breeding organisations to help maintain their existence.
The Cleveland Bay Horse Society also offers a British Horse Passport issuing service, which fully complies with DEFRA regulations.
This service has been available for many years for pure and part bred Cleveland Bays, but many people do not realise it is also available to all horse owners whatever the breed, unless they are eligible for registration with a breed society. The society can administer transfer of ownership and other administrative enquiries in respect of all of these passports.
From July 1, 2009 all horses in the UK that do not currently have passports are required to be micro-chipped. Visit the CBHS website for full details.
Even if you do not own, breed or ride a Cleveland, you can support this breed by becoming a member of the Society for just £35 per year (£45 for overseas members).

After a couple of recent visits to Musselburgh racecourse, I am of the view that it is a worthy contender for a racecourse of the year award.
