CAROLINE POWELL has been named as part of the New Zealand’s eventing team alongside Mark Todd and Andrew Nicholson at this month’s World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky, United States.
Jonathan Paget and Clarke Johnstone form the rest of the New Zealand team. Based in Kelso, Caroline has been a stalwart of the New Zealand team.
Andrew Nicholson and Mark Todd hold an impressive clutch of medals and titles between them, Todd having won two Olympic gold medals and two team WEG gold medals and Nicholson won a team gold at the WEG.
Four of the combinations would ride as both individuals and a team, with the fifth riding as an individual and team reserve. It had not been decided who would fill which slots.
The team is: Andrew Nicholson (Nereo, with reserve horses Mr Cruise Control, Avebury and Armada), Mark Todd (NZB Grass Valley), Caroline Powell (Mac Macdonald), Jonathan Paget (Clifton Promise), Clarke Johnstone (Orient Express).

After a couple of recent visits to Musselburgh racecourse, I am of the view that it is a worthy contender for a racecourse of the year award.
