British Eventing have introduced a new foundation points system.

The purpose of this new points system, introduced for the 2010 season, is to recognise the achievements of horses and riders competing in BE90 and BE100 level classes and to provide a points system by which to measure their performance. The points suystem is now in place and is live on both the BE website and BE database

Foundation points can be earned by all horses and riders competing in BE90 and BE100 level classes and are not confined to any particular group of riders. Therefore more experienced riders on their younger horses, the seasoned campaigners as well people starting out with BE are all eligible to win foundation points. However, unlike the existing British Eventing points system, foundation points do not count towards upgrading or eligibility towards any class above BE100.

Members who have competed at BE90 or BE100 level classes in the 2010 season will now see on our website that foundation points have been allocated to all the events that have taken place so far this year and are recorded against the horse’s record.

There is now an additional column showing the new points system when you search under results plus the total number of foundation points is also shown under each horse’s record.

Paul Graham, BE sport manager (development) comments: “It is important to remember that foundation points will not affect the sport; the same horses and riders are still competing in the same classes under the same rules, they are now just having their achievements rewarded.”

BE has published a list of the top 20 horses and riders that have earned the most foundation points so far this season. The list can be found on the fixtures and results page on the BE website and will be updated regularly.
