NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD Greg Taylor from Falkirk, Stirlingshire won the Tri-zone senior newcomers second round qualifier, at the Area 15 (North Yorkshire) show, in fine style riding Denter a seven-year-old 16.2hh, bay gelding owned by Jackie Kemp.
Greg and Denter jumped three excellent clear rounds finishing the third and final round in 39.89 seconds to qualify for the championship at Horse of the Year Show.
The second HOYS qualifying place went to Alex Barr from Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire riding Laura-Ann Garden’s Utopie IV a 17.2hh, nine-year-old bay gelding to complete his third clear round in 40.88 seconds.
Third place went to Mark Turnbull and Ursula XII, fourth to Jo McGlory and her own Roscoe’s Muscarda and fifth to Lucy Henderson riding Michael Rowland’s Weinbea.
The first two both qualified for the Tri-zone senior newcomers championship at Horse of the Year Show and the first five also qualified for the Cushionbed British Showjumping Scope Festival at Stafford County Showground.

After a couple of recent visits to Musselburgh racecourse, I am of the view that it is a worthy contender for a racecourse of the year award.
