AT THE BSPS Scotland Winter Show, Ingliston EC, it was the mini worker champion, Georgian Dorian, winner of both open and advanced nursery stakes clases,which went on to be awarded supreme honours.

The 14-year-old roan gelding, a son of Llandyn Adda and Georgian Donna, also takes part in unaffiliated dressage and show jumps during the winter. He was shown by Rachael Snowie.

Waxwing Typhoon, the Heritage mountain and moorland mini champion, ridden by seven-year-old Myles Lindsay-Brown, for whom this year is his first one off the lead rein, was reserve supreme. This pony has only been with his present owners since July. He was 10th in his first ridden class at the Royal International. He is by Waxwing Hurricane and out of Waxwing Vitality.

The seven-year-old Welsh cob stallion, Pennal The Great, by Thorneyside The Terminator and out of Pennal Lively Maid, ridden by his owner Shona Thomson, began his day by heading the Heritage open mixed breeds class, and went on to be ridden pony champion. He was native ridden champion at the Royal Highland. Elizabeth Hamilton’s reserve ridden pony Wychways Escapade, winner of the open show pony class, is a 13-year-old son of Royal Ensign.

The Heritage novice mini champion was Alanna Hood’s six-year-old Welsh section B chestnut roan mare, Aytounhill Anniversary, bred by Jock McKenzie and Fiona Stewart. Last summer, Anniversary was novice ridden native champion at Central and West Fife. Llanarw Betsan, reserve, had been mini Heritage reserve at the BSPS Scotland Show, Strathallan. This six-year-old daughter of Blaenau Freddie and Swinford Emily was shown by Hannah Grant and had only been bought from Gemma Mason the previous week.

The Heritage restricted mini champion was Lauren Jarvis’s gelding Hengwys Cymro, ridden by her cousin Holly McMillan, whilst reserve both open and restricted, was Ellie Gallacher’s chestnut roan gelding Pontgam Carlos, by Friars Golden Mark, which was fourth at BSPS, Strathallan.

The Heritage novice winner was Liz and Pat Rennie’s seven-year-old New Forest mare Willoway Carousel, by Willoway Minstrel and out of Woodfidley Soft Laughter.

Hightopps Enchantment, a five-year-old mare by Barkway Partytime and out of Barkway Ecstasy, won the mini pony championship for Lucy Bainbridge Craig. Enchantment was reserve part-bred at the SWPCA Show and the Tiny Tots BSPS Scotland points winner. Myles Lindsay-Brown showed the reserve, Garnfach Penri, by Llangeitho Twerp.

Samantha Cloy’s May, which was both novice and restricted intermediate champion and reserve in the open contest, was bred for the racecourse, but proved too small. She is a nine-year-old mare by Gildoran, whose dam Durtal is a Northern Dancer grand-daughter. May’s dam is Derring Rose. May was reserve as a novice at Rowallan.

Champion in the open classes, was Mary Nicoll’s Rotherwood Rainbow (Strineswood Matador/ Rotherwood Bo-peep), also intermediate champion at the BSPS Scotland Finale Show. Sarah Bainbridge’s grey mare Premier Dancer, shown by Alison Morran, was restricted reserve intermediate. Dancer, a five-year-old part-bred Arab, is a first foal of Blaircourt Country Dancer and is by Khelland Royal Falcon.

The novice intermediate reserve was Riversdale Poker, ridden by Kimberley Nicoll. This five-year-old gelding was a winner at Kilmaurs and Dundonald.

The winning novice show hunter pony was Nikki Melville’s eight-year-old grey gelding The Pied Piper which she had owned for two weeks. He is by the Connemara sire Garyhinch Prince. Reserve to Georgian Dorian for mini worker honours was Holly Sherrie’s Milton Chillie Pepper, a 13-year-old part Dartmoor mare which was champion at the Grand Slam, Ingliston EC, and a winner at Riverside, Ayrshire.

The worker champion was Joanne Muir’s Novella Gold, by the international show jumper Land Gold. Emily Waterston’s 11-year-old chestnut gelding Pure Chance V was reserve.

Connie Snowie’s Valentine Hierarchy, by Downland Meteor and out of Waxwing Heather Belle, was native worker champion. This 13-year-old gelding was champion at Fife, Central and West Fife, and Braco. Sarah Gemmell’s Grange Homeward Sparrow, a 14-year-old Connemara gelding by Grange Bobbing Sparrow, was reserve.
