SUPREME IN-HAND mountain and moorland pony at the Border Union was Jill and Ian Graham's Dales mare Kebroyd Martinique (Kebroyd Tobago/Slaypits Cilla), from Newcastleton.
The home-bred nine-year-old pony is a previous Royal Show winner. She had a foal last year and is broken to ride. Gail Whetter's Exmoor champion Oswald, a six-year-old stallion by Whinchat, was reserve.
The Dartmoor champion, from Rushfield Ponies, Dumfries, was Charles and Christine Anderson's seven-year-old brood-mare Hillies Queen's Jubilee, by Nappa Country Boy, accompanied by an attractive filly foal. Lewis Anderson and his parents, from the Greenferns Stud, Portlethen, showed the reserve, their three-year-old black colt Treworgan Showman.
Catriona Bancroft showed the champion Connemara pony, her two-year-old grey gelding Sydserff Gizmo, a son of Irish-bred Castle Gizmo and of Sydserff Copper Beech, but was unable to compete for the supreme award as it was being judged by her sister, Fiona Cameron.
Penny and Willie Hodge were reserve, for the second year, with their Rickamore Dove, a grey mare which is a great asset to them as she helps to traffic-train the young Thoroughbreds at their Albie Stud. Champion in-hand Highland pony was Margaret Comrie-Bryant's three-year-old filly Oatcake of Whitefield, and reserve was Mrs Fawcett's Tower Braveheart.
The supreme ridden award went to Christopher Grant's Highland pony champion Dunedin Rhuan (Muldoanich of Dalbrack/Rowan of Dundonnell). The grey dun mare was bred nine years ago by Anne Mitchell and has been with Christopher, at East Heddon on the Wall, since March. She was supreme at Lanchester and last year was worker champion at the Highland Pony Breed Show.
Sheila Brooks' grand-daughter rode her home-bred mare Jaune of Ednam House into reserve place, at her third show with the pony. Reserve supreme was Caroline Gray's six-year-old Welsh cob gelding Tybanadl Trystar, which had been placed second to Lucy McLung's Fell mare Bracklinn Milly in his section.
Since his usual rider Richard Telford, with whom he is based, was at Hickstead, Caroline had invited point-to-pointer rider Jane Hollands to show him.
Other ponies in the ring were the leading rein winner Rushton Marzipan, ridden by Holly Stewart and the first ridden winner Winneydene Bari Jon, shown by Amy Gospel.
The ridden Connemara winner was Alison Granger's gelding Eastlands Loch Tam, a son of Lough Fee Warrior, whilst the Welsh A/B class was represented by the bay section A mare, Laura Gray's Dagwood Lilac. Gail Whetter's Oswald won his ridden class.
The part-bred ridden class was won by Fiona Hutcheson's Stobswood Cheeky Charlie, a son of the Connemara pony Tiercel Woodman.
In the riding pony breeding section, the youngstock leader was Jill Cousens' Central and West Fife supreme in-hand pony, her three-year-old gelding Kenilwood Sirocco.
David Robertson claimed the NPS silver medal rosette with his Braeglen Silhouette (Willowcroft Regal Bronze/Blue Tina), a two-year-old chestnut filly bred by Susan Harper.
Mrs Hedley's brood-mare, Greenacres Lovelight, was reserve. The hunter pony breeding title was won by Braeglen Silhouette, with Pat Stirling's Little Toy Soldier (Duntarvie Crusader/Texas Tinkerbelle), a three-year-old Welsh section B palomino gelding reserve.
Braeglen Silhouette had been reserve at the Royal Highland as a hunter pony, reserve at NPS Strathallan and champion at Biggar.
The Welsh section A champion was John and Liz Russell's seven-year-old barren mare Gartconnel Ceilidh, a daughter of Gartconnel Shooting Star. She had been a winner at the Highland and eighth at the Royal Welsh. David Rowland was reserve with another of Shooting Star's progeny, a stallion son, Gartconnel Starlight.
The second B champion was Kim Money's four-year-old palomino mare Milford Fair Breeze which was champion at North Yorkshire County. Eleanor Crate showed the reserve, her Skellorn Grafitti, which had been second at the Royal Highland and NPS Strathallan.
The C/D champion was Charles and Christine Anderson's eight-year-old section D brood-mare, Tysilio Tesni, by Glantraeth Cymro'r Wy. Tesni had been bought at the Cob Sales last autumn and was reserve at the Royal Highland. Jane Barrett's section D palomino gelding Rosecombe Symphony's Minstrel was reserve.
Heading the coloured horses and ponies was Julie Cameron's three-year-old skewbald filly, Towercross Pablo Princess, from Gateshead. Anne Robson's traditional ridden gelding Kilkenny's Chief was reserve.
In the Ponies (UK) potential Burghley event pony qualifier, the 138cm class was won by the Turner family's Cennen Speculator, a 10-year-old Welsh section B chestnut gelding. The over 138cm class was won by Diana Gilbertson's High Crane Comtesse.
Native worker champion was Gail Whetter's dun Highland pony gelding Parklands Lord Roderick. Julie Somervail's Connemara stallion Bellindene Franklyn, by Garryhinche Prince, was reserve.
